Mutually Assured Data
How we all benefit from decentralisation
The world runs on data. Take away reliable access to data and the services we all take for granted disappear overnight. You don’t need us to tell you how that pans out.
The trouble is, much of the world’s data is stored in data centres that belong to hyperscalers and are subject to the whims of billionaires and governments. Consolidation is growing and it’s increasingly hard to see a future where data is treated as a neutral resource to be used for the common good. We believe that individuals, organisations and, yes, governments need a Plan B: Mutually Assured Data.
Here’s how decentralisation can preserve our data in perpetuity.
Taking back control. Keeping copies of data on an autonomous, decentralised platform like Autonomi significantly reduces the risk that you will lose access to your data through outages, disasters or commercial or political decisions. Data is encrypted and replicated automatically.
People power. Autonomi is powered by millions of individuals and organisations all over the world who lend spare capacity to the network by running nodes on their laptops and phones. No need to rely on Zuck and Jeff to keep your data safe and available.
Pay once, store forever. With subscription-based storage you need to keep paying. With “free” online storage your data is being mined or sold. With Autonomi you pay once and store forever - and your data will be completely private forever too.
Decentralisation is a co-operative model – you take care of my data, I take care of yours. We all benefit.
As a provider, every time we contribute storage to an autonomous decentralised network, we're making the world a little bit more resilient (and of course we’re paid for our contribution too). As a user, every time we choose decentralised systems over cloud platforms, we're voting for a future where no single entity can control the flow of information.
This is what we mean by Mutually Assured Data. It’s a term deliberately chosen to contrast with the nuclear doctrine of Mutually Assured Destruction. Instead of focusing on the threat of annihilation to prevent one superpower seizing control it embodies a vision of peace, cooperation and understanding.
We’re not seeking the destruction of the existing internet, we’re offering an alternative, one that sets its face against the power grabs and empire building of the big players. Data centres represent are single points of failure – and, by the way, will prime targets in any major conflict. Mutuality spreads the risk.
Together, we are way bigger than Zuck, Jeff and the other hyperscale monopolists. The infrastructure for Mutually Assured Data exists today. The protocols are built. The Autonomi network is growing.
It’s your choice.
